Police in western Wisconsin found a woman dead after responding to a Wednesday afternoon request for a welfare check in Hudson.
According to Hudson police, officers were dispatched to an address in the 1600 block of Namekagon Street shortly after 3 p.m. While officers were on the telephone speaking with a man who lives at the residence, he made comments that suggested someone was in danger in the home.
The man refused to leave the residence and then threatened to end his life by making officers shoot him. After several hours of negotiating, the man agreed to exit the residence, and he was taken into custody and booked into the St. Croix County jail.
Officers then found the woman deceased inside the residence.
After issuing and later lifting a neighborhood alert to evacuate or shelter in place, police said there was no ongoing public threat.
No further information was released. The matter remains under investigation, police said Wednesday night.
