The Minnesota Zoo is kicking off its winter activities later this month with Winterfest followed by the first of three after-hour adult-only events.
Winterfest will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 25. Later that night, Zoo After Hours kicks off the first of three evening events where adults can explore the zoo and “unwind with the wildlife.”
Winterfest will be held on Celebration Plaza at the Apple Valley zoo with a “one-of-a-kind” sculpted ice bar that will serve up drinks with a “frosty flair.”
“How about the perfect treat to go with your cold drink? Eat a s’mores outdoors! Get toasty by the fire as you roast marshmallows for a sweet snack,” zoo officials said in a press release, noting that s’more kits will be available for purchase.
“If the fire isn’t enough to keep the chill at bay, warm up (by eating some of Minnesota’s classic comfort food — hot dish) at the Call of the Wild Café!”
Zoo officials say visitors can bundle up and walk the Northern Trail to see cold-loving animals, such as bison, caribou, Bactrian camels and Amur tigers. In addition, local children’s author Heather Boschke will be at Winterfest reading from her picture book “Little Birdie Buddies.”
Also back indoors, visitors can “explore the lush, 78-degree environment of Tropics Trail, or check out the underwater beauty of Discovery Bay, featuring five California sea lions.”
Later that night, Zoo After Hours gets underway. It returns on March 15 and April 26.
“Make it a memorable date night or meetup with friends,” the zoo said.
