Every member of the Vikings knew the breakout game from receiver Jordan Addison was going to come sooner or later.
He’s simply too talented to be kept down for too long.
After an underwhelming stretch of games by his standards, Addison balled out last weekend against the Chicago Bears. He finished with eight receptions for 162 yards and a touchdown, playing a key role in the 30-27 overtime win.
What does he have for an encore this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals?
“They do a good job on the back end,” Addison said. “We’ve got to come with it and make sure we’re ready for anything.”
As he reflected on this season as a whole, Addison credited the Vikings for having a support system in place that allowed him to stay focused on the task at hand.
“Just coming into this building and talking to my teammates always keeps me grounded,” he said. “I feel like anybody that plays for the Vikings is blessed with having a great support system.”
It remains to be seen if Addison can build off last week’s big game. He’s certainly hoping to do so.
“It really motivates me to come in and keep working,” Addison said. “I feel like I’m about to hit my stride right now.”
Davis excited for opportunity
There might be some untapped potential in linebacker Jamin Davis, and the Vikings are hoping they can uncover it.
Originally selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Davis was cut by the Washington Commanders last month. He landed with the Green Bay Packers, agreeing to join their practice squad while he waited for his next opportunity to arise.
It came this week when Davis signed with the Vikings. He got the call from his agent in the middle of a workout, hopped in his truck, and made his way to the Twin Cities. Now he’s looking forward to getting his career back on track.
“I know what I am, and I know who I am,” Davis said. “As soon as my number gets called, I’m going to show everybody else.”
Pace expected to return
Though linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. recently was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, the Vikings are hopeful he will be able to return in time for the playoffs.
After being placed on injured reserve, Pace is required to miss at least the next month of action. That means the earliest he will be eligible to return will be when the Vikings host the Green Bay Packers on Dec. 29.
“It’s unfortunate,” head coach Kevin O’Connell said. “That’s going to be something we’ve got to overcome.”
Briefly
With veteran long snapper Andrew DePaola still recovering from a hand injury, the Vikings have promoted veteran long snapper Jake McQuaide from the practice squad.
This is nothing more than a paper move as McQuaide was previously on the practice squad and had run out of standard elevations. He will continue to serve as the long snapper in the short term.
