Nick Williams’ goal midway through overtime gave the No. 15 St. Thomas men’s hockey team a 3-2 victory at Bowling Green Friday night.
The Tommies trailed twice in the contest before rallying in both the first and second periods. Nathan Pilling scored the visitors’ first goal of the night on the power play at 18:33 of the opening frame to send the contest into the initial intermission knotted at 1-1.
Bowling Green regained the lead just 54 seconds into the middle stanza to re-take the advantage at 2-1. However, less than 12 minutes later, Pilling logged his second power-play goal of the evening to once again deadlock the contest at 2-2.
After a scoreless third period, Williams broke the Falcons’ hearts with his even-strength tally to win the game. It was the Tommies’ 12th win in their last 13 games, giving them an 18-8-3 overall record, 15-4-2 in conference play.
Goaltender Carsen Musser made 25 saves to earn the victory in net, while Lucas Wahlin collected two of UST’s six assists in the contest.
St. Thomas now leads the CCHA by five points over Augustana and Michigan Tech, with the Huskies defeating the Vikings 3-2 in overtime on Friday.
Bowling Green fell to 14-7-6 overall, 11-5-3 in the CCHA. The Falcons will host the Tommies again at 5:07 p.m. Saturday evening, with the game broadcast on CCHATV.
