A teenage motorist is dead and another teen is being treated for serious injuries after a Monday collision involving a semitrailer truck in southern Dakota County.
Shortly before 3:30 p.m. Monday, deputies from the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office responded to an injury crash where the driver of a semi collided with a passenger car with two teenage occupants, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver of the car, 16-year-old Berlyn Berghuis of Northfield, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other 16-year-old occupant was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the semi was not injured.
Preliminary information indicates the driver of the semi was westbound on 320th Street when it collided with a 2012 Lexus CT that was attempting to turn east on 320th Street from Foliage Avenue.
The crash is being investigated by the sheriff’s office with help from the Minnesota State Patrol.
“The Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones impacted by this tragic incident,” the agency said in a statement.
