Live Nation has added three more concerts to the ever-growing lineup of the new Mystic Lake Amphitheater in Shakopee, which is set to open next summer.
They include Goo Goo Dolls with Neon Trees (Aug. 4); Toto, Christopher Cross and the Romantics (Aug. 26); and Avenged Sevenfold and Good Charlotte (July 27).
Tickets for all three shows go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through Ticketmaster.
Goo Goo Dolls emerged from New York in 1986 with a sound clearly influenced by Minneapolis’ own the Replacements. After smoothing out their approach, the group first charted with 1995’s “Name” and earned their biggest hit with the 1998 ballad “Iris.” The latter went viral on TikTok earlier this year and picked up more than a billion streams in the process, bringing the song’s total to more than five billion.
Over the past two decades, they’ve established themselves as an outdoor summertime draw with shows at the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand, Mystic Lake Casino Amphitheater, Wayzata Beach Bash and the Basilica Block Party.
A group of studio musicians formed Toto in 1977 and scored a series of hits, including “Hold the Line,” “Rosanna” and “I Won’t Hold Back.” The group’s biggest smash, “Africa,” returned to prominence in 2018 when a 14-year-old rallied fans on Twitter to convince Weezer to cover it. Weezer did just that and earned their first Hot 100 chart-topper in a decade. Toto responded by releasing their own take on Weezer’s “Hash Pipe.”
Christopher Cross has been friends and a collaborator with members of Toto for more than 40 years and they have toured the world together numerous times. Cross made a splash in 1980 when his self-titled debut album won five Grammys, including record, album and song of the year and best new artist. He’s best known for the songs “Sailing,” “Ride Like the Wind” and “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do).”
California metal band Avenged Sevenfold found their first success with their 2004 single “Unholy Confessions,” which went platinum as did “Bat Country” the following year. In the time since, they’ve remained rock radio favorites with a string of chart-toppers that include “Nightmare,” “Welcome to the Family,” “Carry On” and “Hail to the King.”
Led by twin brothers Joel and Benji Madden, Good Charlotte made a splash in 2002 with “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” and “The Anthem.”
