Saints rained out, give up on double-header

The Saints were rained out Saturday in Columbus, but it was a little more than just a rainout. An entire double-header, scheduled because of previous rainouts this week, was just straight canceled.

Further, it was the 11th time in this young season the Saints have been stopped by weather. With May just beginning, that’s already more times than the Saints were rained out in any season since they became the Twins’ Triple-A affiliate in 2021, the most being five times last year.

We’ve already played three doubleheaders and we have two more on the schedule,” said Sean Aronson, Saints vice president and director of broadcasting.

Game 2 of a scheduled double-header was postponed on Tuesday and rescheduled for Thursday. Game 2 was postponed by rain to Friday, then postponed to Saturday.

“And then,” Aronson said via email, “both games were canceled today.”

Neither game will be made up, and the Saints are now scheduled to play 148 games on the season. The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at noon CDT with Zebby Matthews taking the mound for St. Paul.

“Mother Nature is really taking it to us this year; 11 games washed out in 37 days. That’s a .297 average,” said manager Toby Gardenhire, who earned his 300th managing win last month. “We’re going to look at video and figure out a way to get her out.”
