Gophers men’s basketball: Two more players to enter NCAA transfer portal

The Gophers men’s basketball program had two players enter the NCAA transfer portal on Wednesday.

Without a sitting head coach, Minnesota watched junior forward Frank Mitchell and redshirt sophomore Kadyn Betts share intentions to leave the program in the wake of Ben Johnson’s dismissal last week.

Mitchell, a 6-foot-8 transfer from Canisius, came on strong at the end of last season, producing multiple double-doubles in Big Ten play. The Canadian averaged 4.8 rebounds and 4.9 points in 15 minutes per game.

Betts, a 6-foot-7 forward from Pueblo, Colo., was outside the rotation last season, averaging five minutes across 22 games.

Mitchell and Betts are the second and third players to enter the portal since Johnson was let go after a 15-17 season. Transfer Tyler Cochran, whose foot injury kept him from playing at all last year, said he was moving on last week.
