Girls basketball tournament roundup: Mack scores 34 in Minnehaha’s quarterfinal win, Greenway logs triple-double in Providence Academy victory

Minnehaha Academy 68, Caledonia 63: Maryland commit Addi Mack scored 34 points to go with five steals as the third-seeded Redhawks thwarted Caledonia’s upset bid at Maturi Pavilion.

Minnehaha Academy led by 11 early in the second half, but Caledonia (27-4) responded with a 21-10 run to knot the contest with eight minutes to play.

But Mack responded by scoring the game’s next six points to give Minnehaha Academy the cushion it needed to reach the finish line.

The Redhawks will meet second-seeded Crosby-Ironton in the semis at 8 p.m. Friday. The two teams previously met on Feb. 1, but Mack didn’t play in the Redhawks’ 20-point loss.

Amina Allen scored 10 points for the Redhawks (21-9) while crossing the 1,000 career points threshold.

Providence Academy 84, New Richland H-E-G 50: Providence Academy star Maddyn Greenway stole the show Thursday at Williams Arena as the Lions took another step toward defending their state title.

The Kentucky commit tallied a triple-double, finishing with 29 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds.

Providence Academy (30-0) will play Minnewaska Area in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Friday. The Lions have won 41 straight games dating back to last season.

CLASS 4A

Hopkins 70, Chaska 64: Hopkins trailed by six midway through the second half to the sixth seed, but rallied to win the game behind 22 points, eight rebounds and four steals for Erma Walker. Jaliyah Diggs added 18 points and six steals on a day when the third-seeded Royals turned the Hawks over 21 times.

Hopkins (25-5) will meet Eastview in the state semis at 8 p.m. Thursday. The Royals have reached the state semifinals in 11 straight seasons, and 14 of the past 15.

Addi Schneider had 26 points to lead Chaska (18-12).
