Opening Day is just under three weeks away and the Twins have finally begun to whittle down the roster, making their first cuts of camp on Sunday.
The Twins optioned pitchers Travis Adams, Matt Canterino and Marco Raya to Triple-A, along with Emmanuel Rodriguez, one of their top prospects. They also re-assigned pitchers Randy Dobnak, Cory Lewis and Erasmo Ramíez to minor league camp. Catcher Alex Isola and Yunior Severino were also reassigned.
Many of the players who were cut on Sunday are dealing with injuries. That includes Canterino (shoulder), Rodriguez (ankle) and Ramírez, who reportedly has a significant tear in his shoulder that will sideline him for an extended period of time.
The injury is a particularly tough break for Canterino, who is among the most interesting arms in the organization. He is dealing with another shoulder injury after spending all of last season rehabbing, reaggravating and rehabbing his shoulder. The pitcher has not made an appearance in a regular-season game since 2022 due to repeated injuries.

Rodriguez, the organization’s No. 2 and the No. 37 overall prospect per MLB Pipeline, sprained his ankle early in camp, which kept him out of Grapefruit League games. Raya, among the organization’s top pitching prospects, was slowed earlier in camp by a quadriceps strain before finally debuting on Saturday.
After the cuts, the Twins have 48 players remaining in major league camp.
