Warroad 2, Orono 1, 3OT

Generally, as games endure deeper and deeper into extra sessions, game-winning scores becoming increasingly likely to be a ricochet or “greasy” goal.

That was not the case Friday afternoon in St. Paul.

Freshman Lindsey Lorenson moved Warroad one game closer to an unprecedented four-peat with a beautiful deke to beat a defender and then went bar-down to find the back of the net and finally end a classic duel that featured numerous scoring chances and excellent goaltending.

Warroad (26-3) will meet top-seeded Dodge County in the Class A final at 4 p.m. Saturday in what will be a rematch of the 2024 title bout, which the Warriors won 5-2.

Friday’s victory avenged Warroad’s 3-0 home loss to Orono early in the campaign.

The second-seeded Spartans (20-6-3) got on the board first when Zoe Lopez scored on the power play. Kaiya Sandy responded early in the second period to equalize the game for the third-seeded Warriors.

Orono outshot Warroad 62-40, including a 24-10 advantage over the first two overtime periods, but Warroad delivered when it mattered most.

Payton Rolli finished with 61 saves for Warroad, while Vivienne Anderson stopped 38 shots for Orono.

Dodge County 4, Holy Angels 1

Dodge County has earned its shot at vengeance. One year after falling in the title game, the Wildcats will have a shot at redemption on Saturday after downing the fourth-seeded Stars in impressive fashion in the semis.

The top-seeded Wildcats (23-3-2) jumped out to a 3-0 lead on second-period goals from Hannah Peterson, Zoe Heiner and Nora Carstensen.

Holy Angels (19-7-3) bounced back midway through the final frame with a goal from Taylor Lesnar, but Dodge County responded less than a minute later with a goal from Maysie Koch.
