Eagles survive ‘invitational week’

At Saturday’s Staples Invitational, Eden Prairie High School finished fourth out of 10 teams, carding a 344. Detroit Lakes won the tournament with a 327.

“We call it invitational week,” said Marty Teigen, coach of the Eden Prairie girls golf team.

Individually, Grey Randle posted an 81. Emma Coburn and Katelyn Zick counted a pair of 87s, CeAnna Cummings an 89.

On Thursday, May 11, Eden Prairie, golfing at the St. Cloud Country Club, finished seventh out of 18 teams. The Eagles posted a 345.

Nicole Miller earned co-medalist honors, carding a 3-over-par 75. Randle counted an 84, Paulina Bui 92 and Zick 94.

“That’s a tough course, especially if you haven’t played it before,” said Teigen. “Lots of blind holes.”

On Tuesday, May 9, Eden Prairie competed at the Red Wing Invitational, the invitational of all invitationals.

“One of the best tournaments in the state,” said Teigen. “All the great teams are there.”

Eden Prairie finished seventh out of 14 teams, carding a 336.

Miller paced Eden Prairie with a 76. Randle and Bui counted 86s, Zick an 88.

Eden Prairie played its only dual match of the week Monday, May 8, beating Wayzata, at the Wayzata Country Club, 175-182.

Miller earned medalist honors, carding a 38. Zick shot 45, Randle and Cummings a pair of 46s.

“While we’re still chasing the teams in our section,” said Teigen, “we’re playing with more confidence.

“The big thing,” he added, “is that we’re expecting more of ourselves.”

Eden Prairie returns to action Wednesday, May 24, with the Lake Conference Tournament at the Ridges of Sand Creek.
