The Gophers wrestling team continued its roll Sunday, downing 12th-ranked Rutgers 28-9 at Maturi Pavilion.
Seventh-ranked Minnesota (8-1, 4-1 in Big Ten) is now 3-1 on the season against ranked foes.
Apple Valley product and top-ranked heavyweight Gable Steveson delivered a fall for the Gophers over eighth-ranked Yaraslau Slavikouski. Max McEnelly and Isaiah Salazar each won via major decision for Minnesota at 184 and 197 pounds, respectively, while Andrew Sparks had a tech fall at 165 pounds.
Rutgers (11-5, 3-3 in Big Ten) won the first match of the dual to take a 3-0 lead, only to have Minnesota reel off six straight wins from there to go up 25-3.
Eighth-ranked Vance VomBaur produced a big victory in the dual’s finale at 141 pounds, beating No. 13 Joseph Olivieri by a 12-5 decision.
The Gophers will travel to Columbus on Friday to square off with the fourth-ranked Buckeyes.
