The Lynx have signed international center Marième Badiane, who helped France advance to the championship game at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Badiane, a 6-foot-3 post currently playing with Istanbul-based Fenerbahçe. Playing with Lynx players Collier and Kayla McBride, she was part of the team’s FIBA EuroLeague and KBSL championships last spring.
“Marième was a sought-after international prospect following her successful showing at the Paris Olympics,” Lynx head coach and president of basketball operations Cheryl Reeve said in a statement. “She will be a great fit for the Lynx culture and (an) on-court play to bolster our post depth.”
In six Olympics games, Badiane averaged 7.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.3 blocks for France.
The Lynx also have re-signed guard Natisha Hiedeman, who appeared in all 52 regular- and post-season games for the Lynx last season. In 12 postseason games, she averaged 5.7 points, 1.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 0.7 steals while shooting 45.5 percent from the field.
“Natisha’s return to the Lynx was a high priority for us in free agency as she proved to be an important factor in our 2024 Finals run,” Reeve said. “We are thrilled she believes Minnesota is the best place to thrive and reach her greatest heights as a pro.”
