Russell’s, a Grand Avenue restaurant that opened a few months ago, is hosting a Winter Carnival-themed pop-up during this year’s festival.
Called “The Rex,” the pop-up is set to serve apps and drinks, plus pull-tabs. They’ll have live entertainment, too, owner Todd Russell says.
Russell himself is a Carnival guy — he served as Count Embrious in the 1989 Vulcan Krewe and has been key to bringing this year’s King Boreas Grande Day Parade to Grand Avenue.

The Rex takes over the restaurant’s attached party room next door, which is accessible both directly from Grand Avenue and through the restaurant. For the pop-up, the room has been decked out with vintage Carnival memorabilia from Russell’s and others’ collections.
Hours for the pop-up are:
11 a.m. till close Saturday, Jan. 25.
2 p.m. till close Sunday, Jan. 26.
Closed Monday, Jan. 27/Tuesday, Jan. 28/Wednesday, Jan. 29.
Open 4 p.m. till close Thursday, Jan. 30, Friday, Jan. 31, and Saturday, Feb. 1.
