An event to honor outgoing Scandia Mayor Christine Maefsky will be held next week.
Maefsky, the city’s first woman mayor, decided last year not to run for re-election. The co-owner of Poplar Hill Dairy Goat Farm in Scandia was first elected mayor in 2016.
The event, called “A Mayor’s Farewell: Honoring Christine Maefsky,” will take place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at the Scandia Community Center.
The event will include refreshments, a performance by Prairie Anthem, social hour and a special program at 6 p.m. recognizing Maefsky’s achievements, event organizers said. There also will be an open mic session where residents and friends will be invited to share personal stories, memories and words of appreciation, they said.
The event is sponsored by the Scandia-Marine Lions, Libby Law Office and friends of Maefsky.
Scandia City Council member Steve Kronmiller was elected mayor with 51 percent of the vote; former council member Patti Ray received 48 percent.
