A utility worker died Tuesday after a fall at a job site in Sherburne County, according to the sheriff’s office.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. at 241st Avenue Northwest, just west of 185th Street, in Orrock Township.

Thomas L. Stewart, 59, of Dayton, was in the bucket of a boom truck while working in a ditch on the north side of 241st Avenue. He fell between 6 and 8 feet from the bucket while trying to get out of it, sheriff’s Cmdr. Ben Zawacki said in a news release.

Sherburne County deputies and Big Lake police officers and firefighters responded to the scene and treated Stewart, who was pronounced dead late Tuesday night at St. Cloud Hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.
