Looking for places to go sledding this snow season? The Town & Country Club in St. Paul is not one to add to the list due to recent renovations, but other options are available.
The Town & Country Club on Mississippi River Boulevard announced on Facebook that the club is closed for winter activities including walking, dog walking, sledding and cross-country skiing.
“To protect our recent investment to enhance our golf course for years to come, the course will be closed this winter,” the club said.
The club, which opened in the 1890s, began remodeling the golf course this fall. The enhancement project is inspired by “historic knowledge and imagery,” according to a Facebook post.
“When history collides with the modern game, you get a masterpiece,” the post reads.
Architect Jeff Mingay, Turfgrass Director Bill Larson and Duininck Golf are working on restoring and renovating multiple parts of the property including holes, bunkers, landmarks, courses and more.
In preparation for the closure, the team worked on “covering the greens to protect them during the colder months,” according to a Facebook post.
St. Paul-area sledding hills
While the Town & Country Club is not available, there are plenty of other places to sled and ski around St. Paul. Here are some options:
Battle Creek Recreation Center: Sledding hills and hiking trails are free to use at Battle Creek, with $12 rental ski equipment available. Location: 75 Winthrop St. S., St. Paul. Hours: Hiking trails, 5 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Friday; Ski rental, 5-9 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.

Tamarack Nature Center: The nature center has a designated sledding hill at the Discovery Hollow Nature play area, ski passes and rental skis. Location: 5287 Otter Lake Road, White Bear. Hours: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 12 p.m.-2 p.m. Sunday Ski rental cost: $12 per person + $6 for natural snow ski pass. Snow ski passes are required with ski rental and can be purchased online.
Highland Park Community Center: 1978 Ford Parkway, St. Paul. Hours: 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
Baker Park: 209 Page St. W., St Paul. Hours: 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
McMurray Fields: Sledding down the hill at McMurray Fields, 1151 Jessamine Ave. W., St. Paul, is available at all hours during the winter season.
