One man was rescued and search efforts continued for another after the all-terrain vehicle they were riding broke through the ice on a Cass County lake in northern Minnesota, authorities said.
Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk said that at shorty before 6 p.m. Monday, dispatchers received 911 notification of two individuals who were traveling on an ATV and had gone through the ice on Blackwater Lake in Woodrow Township, in rural Longville.
Their location was calculated using 911 mapping technology.
Responders and deputies arrived in the area and located a 20-year-old man in the water. He was rescued and transported to shore, where he was treated by medics for exposure and hypothermia before being transported to St. Cloud Hospital via helicopter.
The search continued into the evening for the second man, age 18, but was unsuccessful. Efforts were continuing Tuesday.
The victims’ names weren’t immediately released.
