Golfers in the east metro have something extra to be thankful for this week: Topgolf officials have broken ground on the company’s new three-level driving range and entertainment venue in Woodbury.

The Woodbury location, the second Topgolf in Minnesota, is set to open in late 2025, company officials said in a press release.

Topgolf Woodbury will have “102 outdoor climate-controlled hitting bays spanning three levels,” the release states. “Each bay will have lounge-type furniture or high-top tables where groups can cheer – or heckle – the other players. The venue will be equipped with Topgolf’s Toptracer technology, which traces each golf ball’s flight path, distance and other cool metrics.”

The business will employ roughly 350 to 400 people, officials said.

The new development will be located near the southeast corner of the Interstate 94 and Interstate 494 interchange on a 14-acre parcel south of the former Hartford Life building.

“We’re thrilled to break ground in Woodbury and expand Topgolf’s presence in Minnesota,” said Chris Callaway, the company’s chief development officer. “The venue will offer a new way for locals to connect, compete and play with friends and family while experiencing Topgolf’s unique style of modern golf.”

Topgolf Woodbury also will feature a full-service bar and restaurant, more than 140 HDTVs, fire pits, music, a private event space and a rooftop terrace.

Said Woodbury Mayor Anne Burt: “Our residents and businesses are so excited about Topgolf coming to Woodbury. We’ve been actively pursuing more recreational uses and play activities for our community, and Topgolf is a regional draw that will attract visitors from all over the region. Their presence will also benefit the surrounding businesses and add more jobs.”

Another addition to the area is Main Event, a family entertainment center that will include bowling, laser tag, arcade games and games of virtual reality. It will be located on a 4.8-acre parcel near Topgolf; Main Event is owned by Dave & Buster’s Entertainment.

The proposed development on Bielenberg Drive is adjacent to a future station for the Metro Gold Line, a 10-mile bus rapid transit line that will run between St. Paul and Woodbury and will provide transit opportunities for guests and employees.

Topgolf opened its Brooklyn Center location in September 2018.
