After a 3-1 home win against the Toronto Scepters in their preseason opener, the Minnesota Frost finished a perfect preseason with a 4-3 overtime win on the road Thursday against the New York Sirens.
Minnesota’s championship defense gets going in earnest on Dec. 1 as the Frost open the series at home against New York in a 5 p.m. start at Xcel Energy Center.
They were pushed by the Sirens on Thursday. New York scored twice in the second period to take a 3-2 lead into the third before Minnesota rallied.
Frost defenseman Mae Batherson opened the scoring at 16:10 of the first before tallying the game-winning goal at 1:45 of overtime. Brooke McQuiggie and Mellissa Channell-Watkins also scored for Minnesota. McQuiggie and Channell-Watkins each had an assist to go with their goals.
Nicole Hensley started in goal for the Frost and stopped 10 of 11 shots. She was replaced midway through the second by Lauren Bench, who made nine saves on 11 shots faced.
