Vikings offensive coordinator Wes Phillips has been suspended by the team for his arrest in December. The suspension will span three weeks and Phillips will not be paid during his time away from the team.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Phillips, 44, was pulled over for speeding on I-394 in Minneapolis on Dec. 8 at approximately 9:45 p.m. He showed signs of impairment at the time and ultimately tested with a blood alcohol content of 0.10. The legal limit in Minnesota is 0.08.
After notifying head coach Kevin O’Connell of his arrest, Phillips was allowed to serve in his role on Dec. 10 when the Vikings earned a 3-0 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on the road.
Talking to reporters a couple of days after the game, Phillips took accountability for his actions, noting that he did not live up to the standards that come with his position.
“I will accept whatever comes my way,” he said. “I’ll own it and move forward.”
Notably, Phillips pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of careless driving in February, which also required him to pay a $378 fine and do community service work.
